A Tour of the Korean DMZ

in #travel7 years ago

Hello everyone! So I know most people won't have the opportunity to travel and see the DMZ so I'd like to take you on a visual trip of my tour there.

So we started here at one location where the area was known as the Reunification Bridge. As you can see in the above photo I took (and more to follow), you can see landmarks, monuments and temples representing peace.

So here in the above photos, you can see the land bridge guarded by South Korean Joint Security Area soldiers keeping a close eye on the "Bridge of no return." This bridges intended use was for the exchanging of POW's during/post war.

These photos depict a steam train that was heavily damaged during the Korean War. It was used to transport the Korean people fleeing the North. As you can see from the damage and bullet holes, not even innocent civilians were safe during war whilst trying to flee.

Seen above are the wishes and prayers of peace from those families affected by the war or those in the support of a united Korea, tie ribbons and charms on the perimeter fence with prayers written on them.

(Above) A guard tower overlooked a vast forested area showing the actual perimeter fence separating the two Korea's at the 38th parallel.

Part II TO COME SOON! Thank you for following along my trip!

Sort:

Nice photos of one of the most tragic locations in the world. Fascinating that war and destruction can created such peaceful scenery after the soldiers are long gone. looking forward to part II!
