๐ŸŒ Worldly Steemians: I Need Your Help! ๐ŸŒ

in #travel โ€ข 7 years ago (edited)

Hi all, a bit of a different kind of post from me today as I am in need of advice! So, I thought, why not call on all of you clever Steemians from all over the world? Between us we cover the whole globe, and this community has so much knowledge to share with each other!

So, here's the dilemma...

I'm trying to plan my travels for the next year, and taking a look at destinations to visit in the summer, around August/ September.

I've always wanted to go to Greece, the crystal clear blue waters and architecture really appeal to me so I'm thinking of possibly going to Corfu for a few days.

''Ok... so what's the problem?'' I hear you ask..

Well, I've heard that Greece is not very vegan friendly, and I am a little anxious that I will not be able to find anything to eat while I am there!

Greek food is delicious, and the Lisa of 3 years ago would be in her element with all the feta cheese and calamari. So I am wondering, what are the options for us plant based travellers?

The Greek cuisine seems to be very much meat based. Though I'm sure there are lots of delicious vegan options that I just don't know about!

So I'm calling on you, friends of Steemit!

I know I could just turn to Google to ask for advice, but with this great community here, we have a whole world of knowledge to share with each other and I'd love to hear from you all!

I'd love some recommendations for-

  • What to eat
  • WHERE to eat, preferably on the North of the island.

I'd also love some tips on places to visit and things to do while on this beautiful island so if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears!

I have never been so no advice sorry. However we have an app called happycow I am not sure if it would work all over the world or not as i am in Canada. I have used it for places I have travelled within Ontario and absolutely love it! It brings up all the local vegan restraunts! I hope you find some places and have an amazing time.

Thanks, that's a very good idea! I had a look and there seem to be a few suggestions for restaurants with veggie options, will have to research some more to make sure they are vegan ๐Ÿ˜Š

cant help you there, Lisa, but you better take notes down as Greece is on my list to visit to one of these days!

๐Ÿ˜Š Yes, it looks so incredible, I've been wanting to go for years!

Have you tried seeing what options are on Happy Cow?

That seems to be the most sensible thing to do! The thing is, I will be travelling with someone who isn't vegetarian so I'm hoping for some suggestions that I might find in a lot of restaurants so I don't have to drag them to places that are vegan ๐Ÿ˜Š

Following this! It seems lots of places in the Mediterranean is quite hard to find vegan cuisine. I wish to go to Greece either this year or the following, me and my girlfriend normally go self catering as much as possible but without a fully stocked kitchen it becomes a bit difficult to make nice food. Good luck, I hope someone gives you some good advice :)

I agree, self catering is definitely a must! As long as I can find some hummus and lentils I will survive! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Though I hope there are some options for eating out other than fries and salad- in Menorca that was sadly the case!

"Briam" - is a good dish for vegetarian - when we make this at home it is Vegan - you might need to check locally that they don't put Feta in it. I'm sorry I have not been to Corfu - but been to many other Greek Islands - and next month travel to Fuerte........

Ooh thanks for the tip, looks delicious ! I will look out for it ๐Ÿ˜‹Ooh Fuerte is amazing! I have written MANY posts about the island if you want to check them out.

I'm sure you will find lot's of vegetables and fruits. However if you search on Google, you will find several posts on this topic. I have seen following titles in first few search results:

  • 10 Ways To Eat Vegan in Greece
  • Vegan Food in Greece
  • 10 Vegan Dishes Not To Miss In Greece
    etc.

So I guess the easiest for you will be to read this posts, if you do not get the answer here on Steemit.

For sure there will be fruit and vegetables, what I'm really hoping for is specific recommendations of dishes that fellow vegans have eaten in Corfu specifically that are readily available, so I won't have to drag omni companions around in search of specialist vegan places ๐Ÿ˜Š
