Sweet places in Brazil #4 | Barra Grande to Taipu - A wonderful walk along the beaches of the Maraú peninsula
Hi Steemit!
For this new “Sweet places in Brazil” I will show you a little bit of our stay on the peninsula of Maraú.
Where?
The Maraú peninsula is located on the Dendê Coast, in the State of Bahia, 200 km south of Salvador, 150 km north of Ilhéus.
How to get there?
Camamu is 2 hours from Salvador by ferry and road BA-001. In the port of Camamu there are two transportation options to Barra Grande and Taipus: common boats and speedboats. Ordinary boats are cheaper but it takes an hour and a half to get to Barra Grande.
But there is also another option which is the one we chose. It is to go by the dirt road crossing the whole peninsula!
In Itacaré we met a couple of Brazilians traveling by van from São Paulo (3000 km to reach Itacaré). They also wanted to discover Barra Grande and offered us a hitchhiking. What a luck!
@rhavi happy in the van ✌
Here you can see our itinerary from Itacaré:
It took us longer than expected because we made a detour early in deceiving the route 😅
But after more than two hours we arrived at our destination: Ingazeiras campsite (50 meters from the sea).
Campsite quite roots (a little dirty and a very basic kitchen) but very well located.
The beach at the center of Barra Grande at low tide
In the village, we found our friend Luana who works in a Thai restaurant.
She offered to take us for a walk along the beaches to Taipu.
This is another village (7 km from Barra Grande) which is popular for its natural pools.
When the tide is low you can admire the aquatic fauna that lives in the corals.
So the next day we left at 8am with biscuits, water and sun cream (to not forget because the sun on the peninsula is really very strong)!
After two hours of walking we arrived on the beach of Taipu.
There were many people in the water aglutinated at the same place. When we entered the water we understood why. The water at this place was incredibly hot. A real saltwater tub!
A magical moment under the water
We rented snorkel masks to admire the beauty of the corals. I'm really sorry for not having pictures of that to show you. But it was a magic moment! There are fish of all kinds and colors !!
It's as if suddenly we enter another universe, we forget everything else for an hour.
It was after this episode that I decided to buy a Go Pro. Now I could also record those incredible moments underwater.
It then began to rain. We stayed warm in the natural pools while waiting for the downpour to pass. That was delicious.
After the downpour, we ate a fried fish and a good cold beer at a beach restaurant...
This kind of dish in Brazil is called "prato feito". It is very popular and it is always composed of a choice meat or fish, accompanied by "arroz feijão" rice and black beans that are typical of the country.
I took this picture while waiting for my dish. The meeting of a braised cheese seller and a pretty surfer.
We then had a good nap in the shade of the coconut trees...
“Estação Orgânica Taipu” A creative cooperative full of good vibrations!
On our return we stopped to visit Luana's friends who live in Taipu. We had the pleasure of discovering this magnificent cooperative.
In this point of sale we find art, cosmetics, vegetables, cereals and other organic food, delicious vegetarian snacks ... But especially a good band of regulars who come back from surfing and who are all in love with this pleasant place.
The “Estação Orgânica” are warehouses that facilitate the distribution of the products of “Rede Povos da Mata” and invite buyers to become co-producers through a conscious and participative consumption.
If you want to know more about this lovely project check the site!
We had a good time with nice meetings and a good coffee and organic chocolate.
We aslo painted a bit of the wall of the point of sale.
We even found friends from Luana to give us a hitchhike to drive back to Barra Grande (which saved us the 7 km back walk!)
And to finish this wonderful day in beauty nothing better than the vision of the sunset on the sea ...
We stayed 5 days in Barra Grande but I already want to come back. This is a place you can not miss if you are in Bahia, Brazil.
I lived in Morro de São Paulo which is an island just opposite. Unfortunately mass tourism has considerably transformed the place. There is no more tranquility and moreness.
I really liked Barra Grande and Taipu because despite tourism already present, this place is still pleasant, wild and sincere.
Thank you for following me on this adventure! And don’t forget to upvote if you liked it 😁
With Love,
Very interesting and useful information my friend.
Is Itaacaré where you live?
Also... is this the Caribbean or Pacific Ocean?
Hey @soykatonline!
It’s in Bahia, Brazil. It’s the Atlantic, not very far from Salvador. But it is known as the "little brazilian Caribbean"
I spent some weeks there, it was magic! Now I’m in Trancoso (a other city in Bahia too).
Abrazo! <3
Wow! What an Awesome Trip! Brasil é um Paraíso. Moro na Florida e comecei um business que visa ajudar cooperativas, vou checar o link. Thanks!
