Roadtrippin in Greece: The Peloponnese (part 3)
Hello Steemian friends !
Today we are back with the hidden gem of
Feneos
Do you have what it takes?
[Doxa Lake as seen from the monastery]
We took this breathtaking photo from the monastery of «Agios Giorgos (St George)», just a short hike up from the lake’s shorelines, which we embarked on after a skinny-dip in the lake’s crystal waters to stay cool. Here we lit a candle and enjoyed the view of the mountains and lake with a taste of their wonderful home-made "triadafilo", which is desert made from roses.

Just a 5min drive from «Doxa lake» we came across the area’s traditional village. Here we enjoyed high quality organic meat over a chat with the owner Mrs Panagiota and her lovely family. After devouring this freshly cooked meal, we made our way over to ‘Jimmy’s’ – a small local café bar located in the village’s ‘platia’ (main square). We were offered lots of Raki - a traditional Turkish drink that comes highly recommended to loosen you up – and then participated in a local football game with the owner’s son, 5-year-old Sotiris, who is a must-meet for every fan of the sport!

The next morning, following our peaceful and quiet night’s rest by the lake, we returned to ‘Jimmy’s’ for a breakfast that cured our Raki-hangovers – fresh home grown tomatoes in oil accompanied by eggs laid by the chickens in Jimmy’s garden.
(Although we are campers at heart and so chose to camp by the lake rather than rent a room, we highly recommend Jimmy’s wonderful apartments for only 20euro a night for a more luxurious stay at Feneos!)
We sadly said goodbye to our new friends as we had to put an end to our Peloponnesian adventures. A good 2 hour road trip back to Athens, where our journey ended only for a new one to begin soon...
