As we travelled within Wisconsin, USA, we came across some very interesting local festivals as a way to get the brave out of their cozy homes and into the freezing temperatures, to hang out and mingle with their neighbors.

There was everything from ice carving to bike tossing! You could participate on minnow races or go ice fishing. Ride a trolley around town, to warm up or venture on a sleigh ride, pulled by gorgeous Clydesdales, through a birch tree forest.

We participated in a Cherry Pit-Spit contest. As first timers, I believe we rocked! – Gia got second place in her category, 10 and under and I got third place in my category, adult females.

Sure, you could just hang out by the sidewalk fire, sitting on hay piles. Alternatively, watch people pass by as you stood on a frozen lake, testing the thickness of their boots... You could try your luck on a spin the wheel type game or purchase anything made of chocolate, from hot drinks to goodies. Lots of music and laughter, warming up the day!

To finish end our adventure, I gave it a shot on the toilet seat toss. That was fun!!!!

Overall, as we travel, more and more we appreciate spending time with the locals, understanding the culture and getting involved with their daily lives. Next time you travel, try places outside of the tourism spots and you may pleasantly surprise yourself with the amazing new experiences awaiting you. Or check my posts for those kinds of things!

We will have to return for New Year´s to get a glimpse at the Polar Plunge! Now THAT takes courage!
