The Gothic castle was built around 1300 to defend the trade route to Saxony. In the 15th century it was acquired by Lobkovicova - Bohuslav Hasištejnský of Lobkovice, a renowned scholar and traveler, gathering numerous collections of art objects and literature in the castle. In the middle of the 16th century the castle was abandoned and dilapidated. Its dominant feature was the well-preserved cylindrical tower with a view, as well as vast underground spaces.
