A Postcard from Paradise
With beaches as soft and white like icing sugar, the most turquoise water I have ever seen, granite rocks spread all over and rain forest-like vegetation all the way down to the seaside, it is safe to say I have spent the two first weeks of January in paradise. Seychelles – you really are as beautiful as they say.
When my friend @susanne suggested starting the new year off in a tropical paradise, I wasn’t hard to beg. We spun the globe and ended up at Mahe, Seychelles. An excellent choice, it turned out.
When deciding where to stay at Mahe, we actually placed two paper notes with the names of two different resorts on, in a basket, and had another friend pick one – and thereby choose where we would stay. She picked the note that said Avani, a resort in the midst of the rain forest, by a lovely, quiet beach, and we could not have been happier with this choice. If you are keen on learning more about the resort, pop by Susanne's hotel review.
The view from the water towards the hotel.
I did not mind walking out on the balcony in the morning, only to see this sight every day for two weeks.
Enjoying them lazy days
We spent our days chillaxing on the various beaches and snorkelling, indulging in the delights of the creole cuisine and exotic fruits, going on a catamaran trip and exploring the island. And then chillaxing some more.
Perfect spot to lie all day and into the night, reading while the sun sets.
Snorkeling in between these rocks was great fun.
So much fresh, tropical fruit!

Exploring the unreal scenery of Praslin and La Digue
One day I went by myself to explore two of the other main islands of Seychelles – Praslin and La Digue. What met me there were several “pinch-myself-in-the-arm-moments”. The beaches that unfolded themselves in front of me are hard to describe with words, but I will give it a try:
Imagine standing with your toes in sand as soft as flour with the sea up to your knees, not registering that half of your legs are in water, because the sea is so calm and as warm as the air surrounding the rest of your body. You look around and all you see is clear water all the way to the horizon, and there is no motion in the water, as the air is so still. You take it all in and turn towards land, only to see enormous granite rocks spread around in the sand, with palms and rainforest-like vegetation hovering over them – offering you shade from the hot sun.
From behind the rocks and in between the palms, you hear a slight sound of tranquil reggae music, coming from a tiny pop-up beach bar, where you can get fresh coconut water or an ice cold beer to cool you down.
You dive into the clear water and an abundance of fish in various colours and sizes immediately accompany you. The salty water refreshes your entire body and mind, and when your head breaks the surface to fill your lungs with air, you lose your breath once again, as you realize you are not actually dreaming. You are in fact in paradise.
That is La Digue and the famous beach Anse Source D’Argent for you.
Anse Source D’Argent.

The beaches at Praslin were also a sight for the eye, and I had to blink twice when walking onto the beach below, which was the backdrop for where I ate lunch.
Breathtaking lunch view.
I ended the day at Anse Lazio, which has been acknowledged as one of the prettiest beaches in the world. I obviously understand why.

So if you are planning a trip in the near future, and you are wondering where to go – go to the Seychelles. It is safe to say I am enthralled and highly recommend it.
