A different perspective: Shanghai

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

When we travel around the world we experience emotions, we experience special moments, and we build memories, either alone or accompanied. We live hoping that those memories will last forever in our mind, but as time goes by some of them begin to fade.

One of the best methods to keep these memories alive is with photography.

Just one picture can help us remember better a trip we have made in our life, just one photograph can bring back a handful of memories that were hidden in the depths of our minds.

Hi, Steem Community! Today I will talk about my trip to Shanghai and how I tried to capture the charm of the city from a different perspective, making it even more unforgettable.

When I bought my ticket to Shanghai last summer, I wanted the trip to be special. Now, a few years ago I discovered what rooftopping was and, since I was going to be in one of the cities with the most skyscrapers in the world, I thought it would be great to go and do it there. That would allow me to take pictures of the city from above.

I want to say that I'm not encouraging people to do such a dangerous activity, and that before my trip to Shanghai I'd been rooftopping in my city, so I was not new.

OBSERVING THE CITY FROM ITS STREETS

Obviously, I wasn't just going to take "uncommon" pictures. I also shot the kind of photographs that people normally shoot of the city, such as the one shown above, of The Bund area, or the next photograph that shows Shanghai in the night time.

Office buildings across the Yangtze river.

When you walk through the business district of Shanghai you notice the density of skyscrapers that this city has, it's unbelievable.

CAPTURING THE CITY FROM ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE

I stayed in Shanghai for five days, and it wasn't until the fourth when I met two Germans who also rooftopped. They told me that they lived in the city, so I asked them if they could take me to a nice roof to take pictures of the city and they agreed!

We first went to a residential building and got to the top easily. The views of the city and its main towers were awesome as you can see in the next picture.

The Shanghai Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Centre seen from a nearby rooftop.

After spending some time on the first building, we headed to another one a little further. This one was taller and it had a spire on top of it.

To this day, this one is the tallest building I've ever climbed and also the most memorable, I enjoyed every second up there and I finally managed to capture the city from another point of view.

In conclusion, this post is about finding a new way to enjoy the cities or places we visit, and about how can we help our minds to build better memories through photography. I'm not saying that the only way you can follow to achieve this is going rooftopping in every city you visit, there are lots of different ways to do it, but the point is to look for a different perspective to enhance our experiences.
