Sabah destinations : Tambunan Viewing Point
One of the more recent tourist spots opened in Sabah, Malaysia is the Tambunan Viewing Point. In the local Dusun dialect, the term 'viewing point' is pronounced as 'sinurambi', and thus to the local people the attraction is also known as 'Sinurambi Tambunan'. Opened in 2017, the viewing point is 887 metres above sea level, and the tower it self stands at 45 feet with three levels.
My visit there was easy as the place was accessible by road. During the rainy season however, is when one has to take caution, as the mud and water could make the road slick. Once reaching the top, the first thing one will see is the gate to the viewing point with it's welcome sign in the front.
The design of the tower functions to highlight the essence of Tambunan, from the colour scheme signifying the bamboo which Tambunan is famous for to the shape of the tower roof representing the 'sigar', the traditional headpiece for the Dusun people, which will part of its phase two construction.
The iron and aluminium tower accommodates a limit number of people on each of its tiers. Luckily there isn't too many visitors in the area at any given time.
Certainly the best part is the view! On a normal day one could see the valley below with Tambunan in the distance. Looming all around it is the Crocker Mountain Range. On a perfect day, Mount Kinabalu will be visible in the far distance up north. Perfect for panorama pics like the one I took below.
Looking forward to visit the sinurambi again when it is finally complete!
