Kotatsu - the perfect piece of furniture for people who are often too cold - electrically heated table with bedding.

in #travel5 years ago

I belong to a group of people who are often cold and who are looking for solutions to help warm the body. In Japan, I was delighted with a piece of furniture - kotatsu, which is very popular in many Japanese homes. Kotatsu is a table with bedding and a built-in heater. It's usually in the center of the room and the Japanese spend a lot of time under it in the colder months. In Japanese homes, there is usually no central heating, so you have to warm up in other ways.

Kotatsu is equipped with a remote control, with which you can set the preferred heat level. I traveled to Japan in the fall, evenings were cold and most often I set the kotatsu for 3/4 of the maximum heat level.

In the photo you can see a cozy room in a hostel in Kyoto. It was a public room for all hostel guests, but due to the fact that the hostel was small, not many of them appeared there. Very often the room was empty and I could use it as if it was only mine. The room was lined with a pleasant, bear-like, thick carpet. There was a library with books in different languages and instruments to play on.
I was impressed by the traditional Japanese Shōji door - built of wooden frames that are filled with Japanese washi paper. They move very slightly, they create an amazing atmosphere.

Would you like to bask under Japanese kotatsu? I would love to have one at home. Especially in the winter that would be perfect.
