Falmouth - Jamaica

Falmouth is the capital of Trelawny parish to the east of Montego Bay. Recently its stock has risen because Royal Caribbean have built a brand new cruise ship facility by the town. Visitors will find a small town with some charming churches and buildings of Georgian origins.

Falmouth was the first municipality in the Americas to have piped water starting in 1798. The Falmouth water company bought land on the nearby Martha Brae river and erected a system involving a water wheel, canals, and sluices that brought the water into the town centre where it was stored in a reservoir.

Today, Falmouth is a small, bustling town with many people on the streets during the day. The main building of interest is the Falmouth courthouse rebuilt after a fire in 1926. The courthouse stands on its own small square facing towards the Caribbean. The faded yellow facade and tropical gardens to one side are picturesque.

There are a number of churches including the Falmouth Presbyterian Church on Princess Street the edge of town, the Trelawny Parish Church of St. Peter the Apostle on Duke Street, and the austere William Knibb Memorial Church on George Street.
