Discovering Malta - Part 3 - Harbour tour in Valletta 🛥 Auf Entdeckungstour in Malta - Teil 3 - Hafenrundfahrt in Valletta

today I would like to show you some pictures from the harbour of Valletta, the capital of Malta. As probably in every other port city, there are also several providers of harbour cruises in Valletta.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Liebe Steemians, heute möchte ich euch ein paar Bilder vom Hafen von Valletta, der Hauptstadt der Insel Malta zeigen. Wie vermutlich in jeder anderen Hafenstadt, gibt es auch in Valletta mehrere Anbieter von Hafenrundfahrten.
The town of Valletta is situated on a peninsula surrounded by two natural coves. The city has been transformed into a fortress over time and is only accessible on foot from the southwest. On the 3 shores of the city, very high fortress walls were built to better defend the capital.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Die Stadt Valletta liegt auf einer Halbinsel, umgeben von zwei natürlichen Buchten. Die Stadt wurde im Laufe der Zeit zur Festung ausgebaut, und ist nur von Südwesten aus "zu Fuß" erreichbar. An den 3 Uferseiten der Stadt wurden sehr hohe Festungsmauern errichtet, um die Hauptstadt besser verteidigen zu können.
Nowadays, the huge cruise ships anchor right next to the city wall. I hope you can see how high the walls are.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Heutzutage ankern die riesigen Kreuzfahrschiffe direkt neben der Stadtmauer. Ich hoffe man kann an den Bildern gut erkennen, wie hoch die Mauern sind.
In this pictures you can see the impressive dome of the church Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the centre of Valletta.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Auf den Bildern sieht man die beeindruckende Kuppel der Kirche Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel im Zentrum von Valletta.
At the southeastern tip of the peninsula is the "War Siege Memorial".
🇩🇪🇦🇹 An der Südöstlichen Spitze der Halbinsel steht das "War Siege Memorial".
Here in the picture again the "Was Siege Memorial" on the left side, and on the right side a watchtower at the top of the peninsula Senglea. The watchtower is part of the Gardjola Gardens.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Hier im Bild nochmal das "War Siege Memorial" auf der linken Seite, und rechts ein Wachturm an der Spitze der Halbinsel Senglea. Der Wachturm ist Teil der Gartenanlage "Gardjola Gardens".
From the harbour you can also see the steep lanes of the capital Valletta. Since the road level is several meters above sea level, it is impressive to see a large cruise ship passing by the harbour at that moment, and the ship's cabin windows and balconies at the end of the alleyway.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Vom Hafen aus kann auch gut die steilen Gassen der Hauptstadt Valletta erkennen. Da daß Straßenniveau etliche Meter über dem Meeresspiegel liegt, ist es beeindruckend, wenn zufällig in dem Moment ein großes Kreuzfahrschiff im Hafen vorbeifährt, und man die Kabinenfenster und Balkone des Schiffes am Ende der Gasse vorbeiziehen sieht.
At the southern end of the peninsula "Senglea" stands the imposing church "Knisja Maria Bambina".
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Am südlichen Ende der Halbinsel "Senglea" steht die imposante Kirche "Knisja Maria Bambina".
In summer it is usually very hot on the island. The Maltese then used every free piece of shore for a refreshing dip in the harbour basin. Although Malta is completely surrounded by water, there are hardly any sandy beaches.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Im Sommer wird es in der Regel sehr heiß auf der Insel. Die Maltesen nutzten dann jedes freie Stück Uferfläche für ein erfrischendes Bad im Hafenbecken. Obwohl Malta komplett vom Wasser umgeben ist, gibt es kaum Sandstrände.
At the end of this article there is something strange. I was amazed to see this ship named "Mecklenburg" (name of a German state) in the harbour. The ship was built in 1960 at a shipyard in Papenburg, but in the meantime it was scrapped in Turkey.
🇩🇪🇦🇹 Zum Abschluß dieses Beitrages noch eine Kuriosität. Ich staunte nicht schlecht, im Hafen dieses Schiff mit dem Namen "Mecklenburg" zu sehen. Das Schiff wurde 1960 in einer Werft in Papenburg gebaut, wurde in der Zwischenzeit aber in der Türkei verschrottet.
