CLASSIC TASTE FROM ACEH, GAYO COFFEE
Indonesia has many types of coffee spread throughout the region. Coffee in every area has a distinctive flavor. One of them is Gayo coffee originating from Aceh. Gayo Coffee, in addition to famous in its own country, is also known by coffee lovers abroad, especially in the European Union. In Aceh itself, Gayo coffee is mostly grown in the highlands. There are t
hree areas that became the center of Gayo coffee, namely Central Aceh District, Bener Meriah and Gayo Lues. The three regions have 60 varieties and cultivated variety of Gayo coffee. However, from many varieties, two of them are taken to be developed, namely varieties Gayo 1 and Gayo 2. Development of these two varieties is a suggestion from the Ministry of Agriculture because both are considered to have good quality. "Two varieties are recommended varieties from the Ministry of Agriculture that have been tested from quality and productivity," said Iwan Juni, a coffee observer from Aceh.
Aceh is located on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra and has a variety of unique types, ranging from culture, customs, distinctive cuisine, beautiful landscape to other unique things. Not only that, the city is also known as one of the largest production centers of arabica coffee not only in Indonesia, but also in Asia with good quality coffee at world level. The coffee is better known as "gayo coffee" is also a favorite coffee of many people.
Aceh is one of the best-known arabica coffee producing cities in Indonesia with the most commonly used name "Aceh-Gayo" because of its distinctive aroma and coffee flavor characteristics, but do we actually know in more detail about the Gayo origin. It should be noted that the regions that have a coffee-producing role from Aceh are in the Gayo Highlands. The Gayo Highlands is an area that is in part of the Bukit Barisan mountain ridge that stretches along the island of Sumatra. In the highlands the quality coffees from the city of Aceh originated. As the name implies, the Gayo Highlands are endowed with topography that is so suitable for growing and developing coffee because the ideal height of arabica coffee is ideally grown above 1000 mdpl and is supported also with the condition of fertile soil. Yes, the soil conditions in the Gayo Highlands are volcanic, the type of soil that has high nutrients, derived from the volcanic process of many volcanoes found in Aceh, one of which is in Lukup Sabun, Bandar Lampahan, Simpang Balik, Bener Meriah Regency.
It brings an impact on the quality of aroma and taste of coffee produced. But before revealing more about the typical characteristics that coffee possesses from the soil of Sumatra especially Aceh, readers need to know additional information about two companies engaged in the coffee industry.
If the reader knows one of the companies moving downstream of the coffee industry, it has coffee shop outlets in more than 20 countries in the world and has a central location in Seattle, Washington, is a company that uses arabica coffee from the Gayo Highlands and was given the name of Sumatra as one of its superior products.
Then another example, a company that moves more upstream in the coffee industry as a green supplier, coffee roasting supplies located at 2823 Adeline Street, Oakland, California as well choose / use arabica coffee from Gayo Highlands and join Sumatra name for one of its products.
The natural conditions of the Gayo Highlands greatly influence the quality of the aroma and taste of coffee produced. Characteristics of the smell and taste of gayo coffee will bring us to touch the typical sensory experience of floral notes such as black tea or spicy notes such as ginger, clove to lemongrass as well as other sensations in accordance with each individual who enjoys it . In fact, not only that, the aroma and flavor characteristics that we will generally find in coffee from other regions in Indonesia such as Bali with typical tasting notes such as citrus / orange or coffee from Latin America such as Colombia with typical tasting notes dried-fruit can often also we encounter while enjoying coffee from Aceh-Gayo it.
These things underlie Tanamera Coffee to cooperate with Gayo coffee with the farmers there, control and educate each other because the aroma and taste quality of coffee can be optimized not only from natural conditions, planting height or varieties but also from post harvest process as well roasting. An effort from Tanamera Coffee to be able to keep and give the classical arabic enjoyment typical of Sumatra to coffee lovers in Indonesia.
