Located in Jerusalem, Israel, the Wailing Wall takes its name from the traditional Arabic term for the wall, El-Mabka ("the place of weeping"), due to the sadness of the Jews expressed by the loss of their temple.

Believers have a tradition of putting a paper with petitions in the cracks of the wall, since it is believed that the angels will take them into the hands of God.

According to legend, when the legions of Emperor Tito destroyed the temple, only part of the outer wall remained standing. Tito left this wall so that the Jews had the bitter memory that Rome had defeated Judea (hence the name of the Wailing Wall)
