Athens where you should go! You never try you never know!

Hey guys,
I havent been on steeem for quite the time, maybe because i didnt travel, maybe because of the lack of time because of studying. Anyways if you ever consider visiting greece you should definetly check out Athens and especially the backpackers we stayed in, this post is about my impressions of the city as well as a little guide for you.

First things first, if you arrive at the Airport and dont have enough money for a Taxi, take the Bus to Syntagma Square! It is cheaper easy and departes very often.

Athens is one of the oldest cities in Europe, it is fair to say it that democracy in Europe started here and that the city is full of ancient sites to keep you busy, as the Acropolis, the Hadrians Library, the Agora the Olympeion, the presidential palace and so on. You cant go a hundred meters without bumping into an old ancient site, which makes your trip very special.

On the other Hand if you are looking for a Bar/Party Holiday you are at the right place as well, Gazi is the place to be to go Clubing, there are a variety of different clubs, bars and shops. You should go rather late as the greek like to party late. The Clubs often wont be open before 1AM but they also close late in the morning hours.
But keep care of getting pick pocketed may it be in the metro at daytime or the club at night time, Athens is a capital city with lots of pick pockets.

The Acropolis:
If you consider visiting the Acropolis (like everyone), you do best as a student of the European Union, as it is free to see most of the sights for free. You pay half the price if you are a student outside the EU and full price otherwise.
Anyways you should go and check out the Acropolis and the sights near around although it is kind of destroyed, it is definetly worth it!
The best time to go there is in the early mornig hours or at afternoon because it will most definetly be really crowded otherwise.

Go to the Hadrians Gate to get a nice shot of it with the Acropolis in the Background.

You could start the day by testing your negotiationskills at the lokal Markets, or buy some fresh fruit, which is excellent in Athens and after an exhausting day full of sightseeing you could finish the day by watching the Sunset.
There are a lot of nice places to visit for seeing the sunset or Sunrise, as a small hill, next to the Acropolis or drive up the mountain to the Chapel of ST. George.

If you are outgoing and like to meet new People as well as a cheap city tour by a really good tour guide, you should stay at "Athens Backpackers"hostel, it is the best, cheap Hostel with an Amazing view on top of the Rooftopbar, with direct view of the Acropolis at night. We met a lot of new interesting and exciting people it didnt even took 5minutes and we went out eating and went to a bar as a group eventhough we barely even met.
If you consider yourself a bar type of Person, you should check out the streets near Syntagma Square, if you like to go hard you can go to Gazi, the Partycapital of Athens. Prices are moderate, but if you are on a low budget go to the store to grap some beer for the way.

The greek people love their animals, they care for them and live with them. It is not unusual that there are some dogs which dont seem to have an owner, there are cats at the Acropolis as well as everywhere else and if you are lucky, youll see a tortoise at some ancient sight.

A lot of people do a daytrip to the Islands. We didnt do it as we were on a rather low budget, but it is not super expensive and a lot of people said it is the real Deal.
