Travel Romania - Part 2: Peleș Castle and Sinaia Monastery

in #travel7 years ago

TLDR: Peleș Castle is way better than Bran Castle.

Hi Steemers,

Hope you’re having a good day! Romania Part 1 was in Bucharest, check it out if you’ve got a couple of mins. We drove from Bucharest to Peleș (Peh-lesh) Castle in the Carpathian Mountains. It’s an extremely beautiful/popular/famous castle built by King Carol I, and in my opinion, way more awesome than Bran Castle (pictures of Bran in another post).

Part 2: Peleș Castle and Sinaia Monastery

Peleș Castle looks like something out of a Disney movie. We went for a tour inside, but no pictures were allowed, which is very unfortunate as the inside is possibly even more impressive that the outside. You should check out its history if you have time; it looks like the people that owned it were really awesome. Here’s the wiki link for convenience: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pele%C8%99_Castle

What we found a touch odd was the number of people in bridal wear, some with, some without grooms, who were getting their photos taken at the castle. We assumed at the time that it was prime time to get shots done for bridal magazines, however, we found out (several days later) that they were ACTUAL brides. It’s common for people to have their wedding, then get their official photos done several days later, often traveling to a specific location, like Peleș Castle.

Next to the castle is the smaller Pelișor Castle, built at the same time by King Carol I for his nephew and heir, future King Ferdinand. One of the most impressive gifts I’ve seen.

Further down the road, past the gypsy stalls with some very impressive handmade crafts, there is Sinaia Monastery. It has an Old area and a New area (new area is still hundreds of years old) and both are still used today. It is one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever visited, and it is easy to understand why people travel there.

Thank you all!
-Peace

Next: Stay fit in just two minutes a day (really). Then more Romania travel.
