The first dol harbang according to my research was known to be made in 1754.Also are three main theories as to the origin of dol hareubangs: either that they were introduced by visitors from the sea, that they are a counterpart to the jangseungs (totem poles) of mainland Korea, or that they spread with shamanic mushroom culture. It is believed that these dogs were made to help women with infertility capabilities. I believe there hold more meaning to its existence. I hope this information was beneficial......peace out :)
