Xilitla, Edward James Castle
Xilitla is a municipality and town in the state of San Luis Potosí, in the Huasteca region of Mexico. It’s known for its fertile mountains and springs which create panoramic landscapes throughout the municipality. Las Pozas gardens are a tourist attraction.
It is roughly defined as the area in which the Huastec people had influence when their civilization was at its height in the Mesoamerican period.
James most fantastic surrealist creation was realized in the Mexican rain forest, a surrealist Sculpture garden, "Las Pozas"
James is best known as a passionate supporter of Surrealism, a movement that was born from the political uncertainty and upheaval between the wars. Rejecting the bourgeois' dominating rationality, surrealists escaped into a world of fantasy and irrationality. He sponsored Salvador Dalí for the whole of 1938 and his collection of paintings and art objects that subsequently came to be accepted as the finest collection of surrealist work in private hands.
Las Pozas ("the Pools"), near the village of Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, more than 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level, in a subtropical rainforest in the mountains of Mexico, is a garden created by James. It includes more than 80 acres (32 ha) of natural waterfalls and pools interlaced with towering Surrealist sculptures in concrete. Massive sculptures up to four stories tall punctuate the site. The many trails throughout the garden site are composed of steps, ramps, bridges and narrow, winding walkways that traverse the valley walls.
Xilitla is a magicall town where you can get in touch with nature and all its surrealistic wonders in Edward James’s world…
The castle “Las Pozas” is a very odd place where you can get lost in the stairs with no end…
You will fall in love with the waterfall inside the castle! And you can see some rare sculptures like the 7 sins and 7 snakes.
Nice to meet you @jdeutsch🙃
