The Galata Tower and District in Istanbul
The Galata Tower, one of the symbols of Istanbul was constructed in 1348 by the Genoese community and it was part of a huge fortification. The nine story tower is 66.90 meters high and it was the tallest structure in the city for a long time and it still dominates the skyline of the Golden Horn. The cylindrical tower made from stone offers from the upper balcony 360 degree view of the Golden Horn, Old City, Bosphorus and Beyoğlu district.
In the past 10 years the Galata neighbourhood became very popular. Artists, expats, and private developers turned old buildings into galleries, cafes, hotels, and private homes. Many of the old Art Nouveau buildings are restored. When you travel to Istanbul, take your time and explore this exciting place, full of life. You won't be disappointed.
