Attractions of Dalat: #23 The Prenn Pass
The Prenn Pass is a spectacular mountain pass on the outskirts of Dalat. This 11 kilometre pass is terrific to ride a motorbike along. If you have no experience though, it’s best not to hire. Accidents are not unknown on this stretch of road. The views though are terrific.
One of the things that you will encounter here is the well known “Ghost House”. This supposedly haunted villa sits among the pine stress and has many ghost stories attached to it. Dalat has many French and American built villas and some of them have become run down and overgrown. This has created a ripe breeding ground in which the ghost stories take hold. One such story tells of a group of French Foreign Legionnaires who raped and killed a number of girls here. Legend has it that their hols can be heard at night.
In 1955 a famous author Nhat Linh bought the property and spent his days here writing among the wonderful orchids that grow in the gardens. Two graves mysteriously appeared in the garden and he taught permission to have them removed. This of course is all grist to the mill for the ghost believers.
It is along this pass that you will encounter both the Prenn Falls and the Datable Falls, two of the best waterfalls in the area.
