[@ImLikeTT Blog #42] Late Night Walk & Delicious Food! 동촌유원지

in #travel7 years ago

Hello Steemit!

The other night I went for a late night stroll around 동촌유원지 (dongchon yuwonji). Its a park located near the riverside in Daegu, South Korea. It's a great place for walking at night, since the bridges usually have lights on them. There is a nice walking path along the riverside too, so it's easy to walk, and get away from the noise of the city.

I started my walk from the Ayang Railway Bridge. It's a bridge that connects Dong-gu Sinam-dong and Dongchon-dong across Geumho River. It was built in 1919! However, it was decommissioned, and turned into a cafe. The original tracks and railroad ties are still there though. It's actually quite nice to look at, at night!

Walking a little further down, you come to another bridge. This is actually a bridge for cars to cross the river, not just a walking bridge. They also light it up. The colors change every 10 seconds or so.

We thought it was a little eerie; the bridge went from white to red. These colors are symbolic of death in Korea. I wouldn't want to be driving across during this color change.

If you keep walking, you will eventually find yourself at the park. There isn't much happening at night here. There are a lot of modern cafes, and a couple restaurants, though I came here for the more traditional Korean style eatery.

Along one of the narrow roads that run parallel to the river, there are a bunch of small Korean restaurants. The serve various Korean style dishes. Some are more meat oriented, while others focus on fish.

Most of these places have elevated tables, and then tables on top of those tables, to simulate sitting on the floor.

They almost look like they were put together by hand 20 years ago, which they probably were.

With any Korean meal, you are always served a bunch of various side dishes. These vary from place to place, and can be very unique. We decided to get some 막걸리 (makgeolli) with our meal, a form of Korean alcohol.

We ordered some boiled fish soup, and seafood 파전 (pajeon) , which is a Korean style pancake made out of green onion, some batter, and chopped squid. It was delicious!!

It was pretty late, and since it's winter (freezing cold) a lot of people don't really visit these places at night. They probably reach peak popularity in the summer. Since there weren't a lot of people, the staff would just watch drama haha! Usually Korean restaurants have a giant T.V. playing drama. Also, if you notice, there is a tree growing through the center of the restaurant.

I checked outside, and indeed the tree was really growing through the restaurant.

A lot of trees are wrapped in lights.

After eating, we walked up on the hill next to the river, which is also part of the park. You get and excellent view of the suspension bridge at the park. It also changes colors. I think the pink looks the best.

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Awesome pics. Thanks for sharing. I know this might be an akward question so if you dont want to answer it dont worry about responding. Do people in SK worry about what is happening in NK or do they just ignore or tune it out of their minds. I am just curious.

Thanks.
It's the latter. It's almost strange, as it's not really something you think about day to day. It's almost like there isn't a threat at all.

I also like walking at night. In your post, you have included many food recipes All are very delicious to me.Overall amazing photography.I appreciate your whole content, photo, food and so much enjoying moment.
