We Climbed to the Top of St. Peters Basilica and It Was Not Easy!steemCreated with Sketch.

Making the Extra Effort to See Rome from St. Peters was Worthwhile!

Today we climbed to the top of St. Peters Basilica in Vatican City. We cheated a little by taking an elevator which saved us the first 231 steps. The remaining 320 steps my very pregnant @AnaHilarski and I went full trooper.

European Travel Tip- It is so much easier to do these things when your wife is pregnant. Head of the line privileges everywhere. Italians have been the best. They treat her like royalty.

Once You Climb the First Set of Stairs You Will Reach the Dome Entrance.

The views from inside St. Peters Basilica were fabulous but do to the protective fencing it was hard to get beautiful shots.

I65 Steps to Go Until We Reach the Top of St. Peters Basilica!

Those last 165 were tough. The walls are slanted because of the roof. The stairs are very narrow and I am quite a big guy. We stopped multiple times to give Anabell a rest and I admit I was spent once we reached the top.

By the way, I mentioned you in my recent post. I hope you can spare a minute and respond to it. I'll appreciate it.

Steem On!

I noticed in Rome, and most of Italy, that if you get your tourism stuff done before 13:00 there will be fewer people. After everyone has woken up and had brunch things get nuts. I don't have the pregnancy "advantage" so...

@hilarski - Oh my goodness, your pregnant wife went there? Sir, in my country our mothers never allow this :) Anyway you two made beautiful photography Sir... Love them & wish you all the best Sir....

That looks amazing. I'm heading over next year. Did you book tickets for St. Peter's Basilica in advance?

However, if you do wish to attend a Papal Mass you should apply for a ticket about 6 months in advance.

Nope, because we knew that being pregnant meant head of the line but I highly recommend you go online and book. It is low season now and the lines were still crazy.

That ship has sailed ... So tickets it is. :-)

@hilarski,
Wow dude you made a great work! Actually I your wife did a miracle! As a pregnant lady she took a huge risk! Anyway we all can see the final outcome! Amazing photography of wonderful Rome! Yeah that's incredible! Thank you very much for sharing such great photography with us!

Cheers~

Wow what a beautiful view it is. Perfect click.

Love Rome! We went up the St, Peters as well last year, but did the stairs the whole way, it was really quite tiring but more than anything I got a bit dizzy from spiralling up. But that view is worth it, isn't it?

By the way, if you'll be staying in Rome for a bit, I would definitely recommended Rick Steves' Italy Audio Tours. You can get the app or just download the files on your phone: https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/audio/audio-tours/italy

We did quite a few of them and they were really interesting, for example the ones for the Colosseum and the Roman Forum really added to the experience, as you are basically being guided around and learning interesting facts you otherwise wouldn't know unless you maybe book an actual tour. I also really loved the Trastevere walk: http://podcasts.ricksteves.com/walkingtours/Trastevere.mp3

Yes it was and congrats on taking on the steps from the bottom!

imposing and beautiful
