So the fact that Palawan Island in the Phillippines has taken the top spot shows that this place seriously isn't messing.

Travel + Leisure readers described the island as "the single most beautiful place on earth", and rated Palawan well for its rustic nature, affordability and romantic scenery.

Surrounding the main island, visitors can boat hop to the 1,800 approx surrounding islets, floating on the tropical, turquoise sea which boasts some of the best scuba diving spots in the world.
