HannahHopsTheGlobe: Visiting Zurich, Switzerland (With Photographs!)

Hi Steemit friends! Welcome to my HannahHopsTheGlobe post. Topic of the day: the breathtaking city of Zurich, Switzerland

I have visited a few cities in Switzerland over the years (more on that later), and at one point had the fortune of making my way to Zurich. Zurich is such a picturesque city, situated on the north end of of Lake Zurich in northern Switzerland. During my visit, I stayed in central Altstadt (Old Town), a place rich with pre-medieval history that is beautifully situated on both sides of the Limmat River.

While there were endless activities to do and things to see during my stay, one of the most enjoyable parts of the trip was taking a boat tour of Lake Zurich. The views of the city of Zurich as we went further out into the Lake and the views of the scenic and quaint villages situated along Lake Zurich were unreal.

I also enjoyed just walking around the city and taking in the beautiful architecture and activity on the street. The old part of the city has a lot of areas that are pedestrian only, which creates a quaint and lovely feeling.

During my visit, I stayed at the Wellenberg Hotel, a lovely hotel in a historical building in the old town. The location was perfect for easily accessing and enjoying all that the city has to offer.

While I absolutely loved visiting Zurich, one challenge I encountered was how expensive it was to eat out! One of the days my travel partner and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Kantorei, an adorable restaurant in Neumarkt square. While the ambiance was lovely and I live for outdoor seating in nice weather, my travel partner's burger set us back 29.50CHF (swiss franc), which is even more in USD! This is the case all over Zurich, so if you plan to visit it is important to be prepared to spend a little more than you would probably like to on food.

Despite the expense, I found Zurich to be such a breathtaking city and totally worth visiting. I hope to return one day. Who knows how much a simple burger and fries will cost by then!
