RE: Travel Pro Report: Chiang Mai Thailand - Rating 9.6 - Travel Pro Author: @world-travel-pro

Great article @world-travel-pro. Looks like this is going to be a great series.

One thing it might be worth adding is the quality and accessibility of the internet. 😁

Thailand is the original backpacker country where in the 80s one could get a beach bungalow for two dollars a night.

Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt. 😁 On Koh Samui actually when the only way to get there was a boat from Surat Thani and there was only one small hotel. Not that I saw it. We stayed in a hut on the beach. Wonderful!

One should note that if you are doing well and in a good financial position one can get a luxury apartment with private swimming pool for as little $500 to $1000 dollars night.

I was a bit confused by that sentence. 😕

Are there any places you would recommend nowadays that are on the coast?

useful feedback @gillianpearce, Dan you can fine tune as you do this...steemit is the perfect forum to put it out there, we'll all give our 2 cents and then you can adjust for publication.

Much Appreciated. These reports/project is a work in progress. So any feedback is very welcome. Also we already have our second report written by @holm on Brasov Romania. Very well written and informative.

Oh shoot....thank you for showing me that mistake...that's per month. I was first to Koh Samui at age 21 in like 2003 or something. Then again like 10 years later. Things got way over developed in that time span and now I will probably never go back; so to learn that you were there maybe 10 or 20 years before I was, that is so cool to me, I can hardly imagine that Island with just one hotel! I love how you can relate.

Also good point about the internet...that can be a remark under infrastructure. I thought the internet was just fine here in Chiang Mai.

About where on the coast....I personally like Krabi town and Railey beach area, Ton Sai Beach is a very interesting place. I really don't want to recommend too many places, as they change so quickly as they develop. A place I'd recommend from my time there five years ago may be totally different and overpriced and over touristed know. Travel Fish .com is a great resource for which Islands still have that old world Thailand vibe.

Even though I'm going to Thailand in a month, I'm heading straight north to Chiang Mai, I like the Islands better to travel with a girlfriend, it's way more enjoyable. Chiang Mai will have more people and more of social scene which will be better for me know.

I was in Koh Phengnan last year, that Island just north of Samui is great. Yes it has the crazy full moon party but there are other parts of that Island that offer a more relaxed old Thai style environment too. Also still not expensive. Compared to Samui to the South and Koh Tao to the north.

There are some Islands that just got electricity and that's where I'd like to go explore.

You always ask the best questions Gill. Thanks for participating so much in my blog. Have a great day! -Dan

Thanks for the detailed answer @world-travel-pro.

There is enough information there about the islands for a short post of it's own.

Are there Steemians in Chiang Mai you can hook up with do you know?

Yes, my friend who I first met in person in Playa Del Carmen Mexico @luzcypher who runs the open mic contest.

Thank you for the comment. That is another post on it's own isn't it! lol
