My trip to the lovely city of Dubrovnik (Croatia).
Each year 6 friends and I go on a city trip for 4 days. we have been doing this for almost 30 years now. This started when we were back at school in 1988 when we decided to travel for a month through europe by train.
Back then you bought a train ticket that could take you throughout europe and was valid for a month.
This year we decided to go to the lovely city of dubrovnik.in Croatia. We flew from Amsterdam Schiphol to Dubrovnik which took around 3 hours.
We arrived in sunny Dubrovnik with a temperature around 25 degrees (back in May)
The first thing that you notice is the big city wall around dubrovnik.
The second thing you cannot miss is the amount of stairs this city has, Dubrovnik is situated on a mountain and the old city is down near the beach, We hired a airbnb, from the locals and we stayed in a beautiful house with a patio.
Mind the step.
So dubrovnik is full of stairs so you need a good physical condition to be able to make the trip to town and back.
The people in Dubrovnik are very friendly and the food is great. If you are a meat lover and like onions and garlic than the you are gonna like the local cuisine.
Look for small restaurants outside the tourist centre you can find them in the small street surrounding the old city centre.
Stradun
The stradun is a marble street build in the 17th century that goes straight through the city centre.
It is surrounded by a castle called Fort Lovrijenac. This is the castle where they shot the HBO series game of trones.
There are lots of thinks to do and see in Dubrovnik. You can take a cable car to the top of the mountain where you have a great view on the city.
You could visit the old Synagoge with is the second oldest of Europe.
You can visit the beach and have a relaxing day..
When you visit Dubrovnik make sure you get some Rakija from the local places. It is Croatia's natinal drin which is a kind of Brandy.
Here are some more beautiful impressions:
