The traditional Munich Christmas market
Let me take you on a walk across the traditional Christmas market in Munich. It's situated at the world famous Marienplatz in front of the city hall.
I love to stroll around the market. There are a lot of stalls that sell Christmas decorations, wonderful kitsch and knick-knacks.
These puppets are special. They are called Zwetschgenmanderl (try to say this, my friends 😁). They are made of dried plums, figs and walnuts. Very popular dust catchers.
Perhaps you are into something more classy? Handmade straw stars (most probably imported from India or Bangladesh).
Be aware: The worst dangers on a Christmas market are dehydration and hypoglycemia. So let's all be thankful for those good people who serve mulled wine 😊.
Well prepared we continue our tour: Fancy some pottery as a Christmas gift for your mother in law?
Or perhaps some new painted Christmas tree balls?
Or a little lantern to guide you and your loved ones through the darkest time of the year?
There are plenty of possible presents to purchase at the Munich Christmas market.
And maybe Munich's Lordmayor Dieter Reiter is at the market too. At least he isn't in his office. I can tell it from the dark windows in his rooms.
Thank you for this magical walk through Munich. I've never been but after seeing a few of your posts I really want to go. After I follow your blog for a while I'm sure I will know my way around!
I can promise that! I have so many stories to tell. And if there are things you dislike, please feel free to criticize. That's the way things get better.
