A small getaway! 🌊

Dear Steemians,

My first destination this spring is Turanj. A small touristic place located near Zadar, Croatia. Turanj doesn’t have a big population, only about 1200 people. The locals mostly work in agriculture, fishing and sailing. It is a quiet and peaceful place suitably more for family vacation, especially now in late spring when you can still enjoy lack of tourist and almost empty beaches.

For a small place, Turanj has a big history. In the 9th century Romans built a city on the shore, and a fortress on a hill nearby. During the ebb tide you can still see the remains of the old city. On the bottom of the sea divers are still finding ancient artefacts. Here is a photo of the city remains captured from the shore:

The beaches are mostly stoned as they were created by the nature. Only 2 beaches are sandy, so called “city beaches” and those were decorated by local office of the municipality. You will also find rock docks full of tide boats every 20 or less meters.

Local specialities are delicious fresh caught fish, octopus or other seafood. This place doesn’t really have a good “night life”, but if you drive ten minutes away you will end up in Biograd na moru which has plenty clubs to offer. On top of that only twenty minutes away is Zadar, a place you must have heard of as it was voted European best destination in 2016.
That will be my next destination, looking forward to it.
