El Dorado A South American Fishing Adventure - Bolivia (Part 1)

There's no equal satisfaction than the one you get when you're getting on an airplane to fulfill a long time dream, the sense of happiness can be picked up by fellow passengers, your emotions go through the roof. This is how we felt on January 12th of 2017. Our destination was Santa Cruz, Bolivia located in the heart of South America. Bolivia is country with multiple indigenous tribes, seven departments that depend on Santa Cruz the biggest city in Bolivia, they're also one of the worlds largest quinoa producers. After 14 hrs of flights and layovers we arrived to the Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

The people are very kind and humble in Santa Cruz something that you don't see very often in the western areas of Bolivia where it tends to be cold throughout most of the year. We unpacked at our hotel and went with our guide to buy bait at a local mom and pop fishing shop called "Casa Asbun" they had quite a selection of quality and expensive equipment. The bait that we bought was called "Tuvira" or its scientific name "Gymnotus Inaequilabiatus" and giant Brazilian earthworm's.

We woke up at 2 am the next day, packed the truck with our equipment and took off to Camp "El Paraíso" located in Abapó, a small community four hours away from the city. The scenery was one of a kind, the land was flat, then turned into valleys and before arriving to Abapó all you saw were mountains.

Finally the time has come we arrived to the camp, unpacked our equipment and meanwhile we waited for the guide to set the boat and everything else up we decided to cast a few times to test out our luck, in less than 3 minutes our first bite, a small "Muturo" or its scientific name "Zungaro Zungaro". We were excited, anxious and intrigued to know what other surprises this river had in store for us....
