Christmas Joy in Valencia - A Glittering Evening Tour
Hello friends. Today I’d like to take you on an evening city tour of Valencia and share how the city is decorated for the holidays. We entered the Old town through the Serranos Towers, explored the area, visited Ayuntamiento Square and enjoyed its festive attractions.
It was a Saturday evening and the city was bustling with activity. Entering the Old town through the centuries-old Serranos Towers, we found the streets alive with holiday cheer. As usual, there were souvenir shops in the area and in the mostly pedestrian streets, we saw holiday decorations in some places and beautifully adorned balconies in others.
As we strolled further we spotted an adorable dog and then came across a Christmas tree. People were wandering around, taking in the sights. At the next square, near the cathedral, we found another decorated Christmas tree. There was also a glowing sleigh with reindeer nearby, where people lined up to take photos. Yes, there was an actual queue for those eager to capture the moment.
An Orange christmas is something you get used to in Spain. But for many tourists, it’s an unusual sight. This year, Spain and especially Valencia, experienced devastating floods. Life can bring different moments, both joyful and challenging.
Holiday music was playing everywhere or at least that’s how it felt to me. Next to the magnificent building of Valencia Cathedral, there was a Christmas market. It even featured cartoon characters, perfect for taking photos.
The market also displayed handmade crafts and a Nativity scene sculpture depicting scenes from the story of Christmas. Hanging ornaments bore the names of different neighborhoods in Valencia.
The temperature was around 15–20 degrees. The sun had already set and the streets were lively with people. Being a Saturday, everyone seemed to be in a festive mood. Even the hotels were decorated for the season.
We arrived at the main square. Here, a fountain, a Christmas tree and grand buildings in the background created a magical atmosphere. Valencia’s main Christmas tree stands here. As always, there was a traditional carousel adding a nostalgic holiday touch. It feels like something straight out of childhood, though such carousels existed long before my time. There’s also an ice-skating rink. When we passed by, people were queuing to enter. In my opinion, it might be better to come in the morning to avoid the wait. But it’s all up to personal preference. Perhaps some enjoy skating in Valencia under the evening sky after sunset.
As we continued, we came across Estación del Norte, where you can enjoy churros and hot chocolate. This year hasn’t been easy. I think many would agree. With 2025 ahead, I hope for a better year as always. Wishing you all the best, kindness, happiness and the fulfillment of your dreams. Take care.
