Dunes of Sleeping Bear
Sharing some of my favorites of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park in Empire Michigan. The land was formed by glaciers with steep dunes separating the land from the lakeshore. This offers panoramic views of Lake Michigan, looking out to North and South Manitou Islands. The dunes run for miles along the lakeshore and can be up to 450 ft in height. There are many trails, but not for the faint of heart. One must be well prepared for strenuous steep climbs, heat, and hydration.
Today's pictures are from the Empire area covering Otter Creek/Esch Beach and The Treat Farm - which is the back side of Empire Bluffs. The Treat farm is a beautiful walk through the woods and opens up to the 1880's farm with most of the structures still standing in good condition. Then at the edge of the farm is a steep ridge, once climbed to the top the views are spectacular. I hope in your lifetime you get an opportunity to enjoy this wonderful area, if not take a moment and live vicariously through these images.
