600 Follower special ! Come with me on a Eurotrip. Where are my Austrians at? Part#1
Hello Steemians!
So as you can read in my previous post I am going on a Eurotrip to Germany and Italy.
After driving for 17 hours straight with few lunch and gas stops I made it to Austria, Vienna.
Few things to note:
- Where driving through Lithuania was a breeze sun still rising here:
Poland was a nightmare. Until Warshaw there was only one lane road and huge traffic. Whats more before Warshaw they are now doing major roadworks on an Autobahn. So also huge traffic jam there. - Austria has toll roads. You have to buy a vignette, costs 9 eur per 10 days. Since the fine is around 250Eur it is worth getting it
- By checking online I thought Poland diesel will costs around the same as in Latvia, close to 1Eur/l. It did not :D Apparently all gas stations close to highway has raised prices and I ended up paying 1.4Eur per litre. (maybe this is common knowledge I dont know)
Vienna is the capital of Austria
Vienna's prime was in the second half of the 19th century, during the reign of Franz Joseph and his wife Elisabeth. This period is remarkable for both Budapest and Vienna as they became modern cities at that time. The Ring road was built in 1857 in the place of the old city wall. Today Vienna is famous for its museums, events, cafe houses, concert halls and historical monuments
So we arrived pretty late, around 21:00 local time to our Hotel. And we had to leave early next day to make it to Venice in time. But nonetheless we had to see Viennas old town, because it is a true beauty. So we hopped on a bus and in 15min where in the city centre by the Opera.
obviously I had to grab a bear at the Bitburger kiosk near by
Next headed to St. Stephen's Cathedral which is majestic to say the least (sorry for the phone quality pics)
More sight seeing from the old town
And one more terrible quality S7 front cam one before going back to the hotel :)
I only had few hours in Vienna to spare because of tight schedule but it is definitely worth a separate trip here because of how much history the city has. I have been here before but I will definitely come again.
