NOLA Trip Travel Preparations
How Do I Prepare To Travel?
So, I recently posted about how I will be going on a trip to New Orleans over Labor Day weekend. In my effort to post more often, I figured I could share some of my methods in planning for this trip.
First, what am I bringing?
So, I will be flying in Friday evening, August 31st and leaving on Tuesday, September 4th. This means three full days, and a half-day each on the travel days. So, approximately four days of stuff. I guess the best method to figure out what is needed for this would be to make a check-list. I will get to that in a moment. First, what bags am I going to take this stuff in. I am going carry-on only, because paying for a checked bag is just silly for four days. This means one carry-on bag and one 'personal item'. For the carry-on, I am going to use my trusty Maxpedition Falcon II (Red). It's super durable and should easily fit everything and still be small enough for carry-on.
I will then have my messenger bag for the on-flight stuff and to help me get the most storage I can for the trip. Somewhere in one of those I will be putting my TSA required '1 Quart zip-close plastic bag' for my liquid/gel items. The rules for that are strange, but easy enough to accommodate.
What I plan to carry in the main bag:
- 2x pairs of pants
- 4x shirts
- 5x pairs of socks
- 4x pairs of boxers
- 1x pair of comfortable gym shorts to sleep in
- 1x towel (not sure if there will be any at the AirBnB)
- 1x pair of swim shorts
- Spare pair of shoes
- Toiletry stuff that doesn't have to go in the plastic bag.
What I plan to carry in my messenger bag:
- 10" Tablet
- My vape, spare batteries
- Charger for the vape batteries
- 2x phone charger (one for my phone, one for the tablet)
- Headphones
- A real book
- Pen and notebook
What I need to put in my 1 Quart plastic bag (silly TSA rules):
- Shampoo
- Body wash
- Hair product (This long hair thing makes life more difficult...)
- E-liquid for my vape
Second, how am I getting around?
Put simply, Uber. I should be able to share Uber rides with the rest of my companions for most things, but I will probably have to manage my own travel from the airport into town. Not really an issue, I have the app on my phone, and I will be able to justify the cost at least once.
Anything else?
Not really, a great deal of the actual activity ideas and what we do with our time will be decided on the spot. Some of the best trips aren't over-planned.
What am I missing?
Please comment below with anything you think might be worth adding, or if I am missing some part of the planning?
Stay tuned for more about this trip, and of course for stories when I get back.
Thanks!
Looks like you got the essentials covered. I use https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/pack-the-bag/id408248615?mt=8 to check off the items I think I need. Here in Europe it can be that one also needs different currencies.. and because shops are not open on weekends, I always make sure I have some basic medications and sun screen and the likes with me.. Not sure if you need all the socks in a place where its going to be really hot! A hat wouldn't hurt though ;-)
Thankfully, as I am travelling domestically I don't need to carry anything other than my usual money.
I will see if there is an app like that for Android.
I think I will probably be adding some small first-aid/medication type of things.
Socks are small enough to pack, and nothing helps with wearing shoes comfortably than a clean pair of socks.
And I don't wear hats.
Thanks for the suggestions.
You are welcome. Enjoy your trip!
Well, as a Prepper i feel its my duty to suggest:
