Sopron, Hungary & Eszterháza Palace 🌍📷🕍
From Bratislava, Slovakia we went further down to Hungary, visiting some famous towns and sites on the way.
Fertőd – Esterházy Palace
The magnificent Baroque castle, also known as 'the Hungarian Versailles', was built by Miklós Esterházy the 'Glorious' between 1763 and 1766. He and his high-spirited wife, Countess Margit Cziráky, rebuilt the 20-room hunting lodge of József Esterházy, transforming it into the family's favourite residence. This was the golden age of the building, between 1768 and 1790. After the owner’s death, it lost its prominent role and it perished during World War II.
Parking
There is huge parking lot just opposite of the castle. You can buy some refreshments from small shops around.
Sopron
Sopron is situated near the western borders of Hungary, at the foot of the Alps.
While city is full of historical and architectural sites, its surroundings offers calm forests with spruces, oaks and chestnuts, lilies of the valley and cyclamens, hiking paths and lookout towers.
Parking
We parked on bus parking in Sopron, which was not so easy to find and reach with vehicle of our size. However all went well as parking is walking distance from the town center and it is supposedly free for the weekends.
