Iceland travel story : Golden Circle : Thingvellir National Park
Thingvellir National Park is a place of significant geological importance. It is about an hour's drive from Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland.
It is the only place on earth where you can see 2 tectonic plates drifting apart from each other, which is not under water. Here you can see the drift between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.

The drift also causes a lot of earthquakes in the region. Some big earthquakes in North America's history can be traced back to this location. In Iceland it is felt as a minor tremor but in North America it can be massive.
Some of these rifts are filled with fresh, clear water. At the south of this park there is Iceland's largest natural lake, named Thingvallavatn.

You can spend hours here watching the landscape. You can also dive or snorkel in one of the fissures.

i was also there, very nice and a place for amazing adventure , but when i was there it was winter and we came without snow and went 2 hours later with 40 cm of it.... and only a couple of hours of daylight... so very much of the area i probably missed..!! nice pictures...!!
Thank you! Yes its weather is very unpredictable. I also faced the same situation but towards the north west of Iceland. Came without snow but later full of snow!
I went 2 weeks ago so it was not that cold. But sometimes warm, sometimes pleasant, sometimes cold, sometimes very cold.
You should definitely visit it again in summer perhaps? when days are longer.
