DESERT TRIP / EPISODE 02

in #travel7 years ago

Hello everybody,

this is the second episode of my ongoing series called DESERT TRIP where I am sharing photographs about our life in the Coachella Valley in California.

All pictures are taken by me or my wife, mostly when we are out with our three rescued greyhounds Paul, Hemi and Sunny.

We have been living in Palm Springs since the last three and a half years and you can read all the "basic facts" about the city (and our life) in my very first episode right here on Steemit.

Today is the first of October and this is the perfect time of the year.

Temperatures are finally going down and a very long summer is coming to an end. Even though we had a tiny little heatwave during the last 2 days and the temperature was a bit under a 100 degrees Fahrenheit it still feels wonderful. I know "100" might still sound pretty hot to most of you but when you just survived your forth summer season with temperatures maxing out at 126 there is just no reason to complain at all these days.

We walk our dogs daily and see so many cool things, weird stuff, modern houses, old cars and so on.

The following pictures are a good example of that.

Palm Springs is full to the brim with mid century modern homes.

Some of them are beautifully restored or being perfectly preserved over the centuries. And many of them come with the matching automobiles.

Many houses are vacation homes and people love spending their weekends here or the whole winter season while driving through downtown Palm Springs in their shiny oldtimers.

It's a funny and weird place and pretty unique, I would say.

Once you leave this tiny town (and we used to do that a lot with our dogs) the whole scenery changes instantly.

Behind the city limits everything gets rough, dry and very sandy. And that's when you always realize you really live in the desert.

We got sandstorms, rattlesnakes, scorpions, all kinds of wildlife, wildfires and earthquakes.

The contrast between the desert cities and the high desert couldn't be any bigger.

When you drive up the mountains you can overlook the whole Coachella Valley with 30 degrees less heat during summertime and a vegetation with pine trees instead of palm trees.

Enjoy the photos and have a great Sunday.
