Sziget Music Festival - My experience: part 1

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemit!

I just made it back alive after a week of music and fun in Budapest, Hungary.
The Sziget Music Festival one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe. It is held every August on an island (btw Sziget means island in hungarian) on the river Danube. For as long as 7 days artists from all over the world come to this place to celebrate the "island of freedom" along with almost 500.000 fellow Szitizens!
Let me share some of the highlights of this past week of madness.

Me holding a sign

(Yes, that is actually me holding a sign)

Day 0: Just improvise

So let's just start from the moment our airplane touched ground at the airport in Budapest; me and my friend grabbed our suitcases and went straight to the shuttle bus service excited to start the party. Soon after grabbing some prepaid sim cards at one of the airport booths we were on the bus to the island of freedom. The ride took a bit longer than expected (that's what my friend told me; i was sleeping like a baby) but unfortunately, that was only the beginning.

Did I already tell you that we didn't have any tents and camping stuff whatsoever? Well, that seemed like reasonable decision to avoid paying extra for the luggage, we could just buy some cheap stuff over there right? Wrong. In the exact moment our bus stopped we realized we were on the wrong side of the island. Not at the main entrance (where the stores are too), but rather in the middle of nowhere next to an abandoned building and lots of parking space.

Luckily for us, another friend of mine (which i met on another tip in Australia) was already in the camping zone, so I hit him up and told him we were going to leave our luggage in his tent before buying ours. Going inside the festival was the only way to get to the other side, and so we did. Well, after waiting about 2 hours under the sun at 37°.

We later bought everything we needed at the nearest supermarket and set up our camp. Tent, mattress, pillow, chairs, some light, a couple of beers in between and we were all set. Except it was only 7pm and we were both mildly dead.

What? Did you really just read it all the way trough here? I'm sorry, that was it for today, i'm too tired. Check out the next episode of this adventure tomorrow, It's where all the fun begins, trust me! (It's not going to be like the hangover movie, but we got some pretty cool stuff coming up)

Cheers Steemit! See ya

Dan
