A walk in Bulgaria #5 Borovets
Hey Steem friends! Today I am going to share with you some info and pics from my favorite place in Bulgaria- the first mountain resort Borovets.
It is one of the most beautiful resorts, only 70 km from the capital Sofia and it is awesome to visit during all seasons. It has to offer so much to every tourist- ski slopes, spa facilities, amazing nature and many more! Here is some historical information about this wonderful place!
Borovets, known by the middle of the 20th century as Chamkoria, is the first mountain resort in Bulgaria and on the Balkans. Its history began in 1896 when the Bulgarian monarch-prince Ferdinand built here his summer residence and several hunting lodges. After the Prince many aristocrats and wealthy families from Sofia began to build villas for summer recreation.
In 1942 the resort was renamed to Borovets - a literal translation of the Turkish word Chamkoria. In the 1960s and 1970s, the resort grew as the largest winter sports center in the Balkans - ski lifts and lifts, lifts, wide alpine-style hotels, the French resort "Les Arcs" in Savoie, French Alps, also planned and built in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Today Borovets is a year-round, modern resort with a superb network of ski runs and lifts, comfortable hotels, various restaurants and bars and countless opportunities for active pursuits and entertainment.
One of the historical sights of Borovets is the Tsarska Bistritsa summer royal residence. Built between 1898 and 1906, it served as a hunting lodge with King Ferdinand I (Saxe Coburg-Gotha) and his son, King Boris III. The architectural appearance is influenced by the traditional Renaissance style, but it also features European architectural elements. Today, the mansion belongs to the royal family and they spend much of the year here. Don't you wish you were there too?
Great photos, did you make all of them?
Thanks! Yes, I took all of the photos in my posts myself. I am not a photographer and they are not that good, but I prefer to put only my pics.
