Travel Tip: Cervena Lhota Castle, unique piece of Renaissance architecture you should visit

Welcome to my Travel Tip edition where I promote some of the most beautiful places, landmarks and architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
If you are an architecture fan, you will certainly enjoy my today´s post as it is about one of the most extraordinary buildings ever constructed in the Czech Republic.

Located in the southern part of the country, some 20 km (12 mi) north-west of the town of Jindrichuv Hradec, the Cervena Lhota Castle is an unusually designed Renaissance chateau built on a rocky island in the middle of a lake.

The origin of the chateau is still partly unknown but it is assumed there was a fortress standing on the very same spot since at least the middle of the 14th century. The chateau later served as a seat of nobility for several centuries.

These days, the chateau is one of the most popular tourist attractions of the region. The unique location and color design (it is rendered with red plaster) of this charming chateau attracts thousands of visitors and photographers every year. The interiors of the chateau are also open to public, offering extensive collections of historic furniture, tiled stoves, paintings, porcelain and other items.

Wow stunning photos as well as an intriguing choice of colors. I can imagine this being a castle from back in the day as it seems like a moat surrounding the building. Does the chateau double as a museum or restaurant now or do people still live there?
