Travel Tip: Brno, an age-old Czech rival of Prague that has a lot to offer
Dear Steemit friends and followers,
Welcome to my Travel Tip edition where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I will take you to the second largest city of the country, the city of Brno.

Brno has always been somewhat overshadowed by Prague, the vibrant capital that has been in the spotlight most of the time, but there are many reasons why you should include Brno in your Czech itinerary as well.
Home to almost 400,000 people, Brno is located in the Southern Moravian region of the Czech Republic, some 140 km (87 mi) from both Vienna and Bratislava, the capital cities of Austria and Slovakia respectively.
Founded in the early 11th century, Brno has always been a city of significant historic importance and it remains one of the most important administrative, cultural and educational centers of the country.

Brno has also been very popular among tourists as it offers a variety of sights and landmarks. The most visited places of the city include the famous Spilberk Castle, the monumental Baroque Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on the Petrov Hill and the medieval, greatly preserved Veveri Castle situated by the Brno Reservoir. Another attractive location sough-after by both domestic and foreign visitors is the Brno Catacombs – the second largest catacombs in Europe after that of Paris.

A cultural hub of the entire Moravian region, Brno is also home to a number of museums, theaters, art galleries and other cultural institutions and it hosts many renowned festivals.
Outdoor enthusiast will appreciate the beautiful natural surroundings of the Brno Reservoir that is a very short drive from the city center. The Moravian Karst and the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape that I showed you recently are also easily reachable from Brno.
Please feel free to check out some of my other recent posts.
