Today, you can participate by submitting your personal pictures from your travels to the continent of Africa.

Your entries need to be submitted by 8 AM Central European Time in order to be considered for the challenge with a description of approximately 30 to 50 words. Only use of personal images will be accepted and only one picture can be submitted for a daily photo challenge. Ten winning photos will receive a bigger upvote from me and ten runners-up will get a smaller one.
Chosen from the ten winning entries, the absolute winner of the day will receive extended publicity in my post tomorrow morning. I will also visit his/her blog to upvote one of the most recent posts. The winning picture of the daily challenge will then automatically enter other rounds with the absolute winner gaining approximately 200 SBD in total.

This is my entry for today contest :) I just went here last week, and it's so beautiful. If you ever want to visit a rainbow mountain in Asia, you should check this one. This rainbow mountains are part of the Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park in China. Layers of different colored sandstone and minerals were pressed together over 24 million years and then buckled up by tectonic plates. It's similar like Vinicunca mountain, in Peru, both has different layers of sandstone colors.

This picture is quite special to me. I took it when @kryptocek and I went for a little winter hike at Lake Marian in Southland, New Zealand. We lived and worked in Milford Sound for 4 months and for the longest time we wanted to do this hike - but never got to because we lost our car in an accident and it was 40 minutes drive away. So one day we hitch hiked after work, did the hike, and hitch hiked back (right before it got dark and cars would stop coming). It was so worth it. I mean, look at this view :-)

Darwin is now covered with clouds, the tide is getting high and the trees will soon almost disappear under the water. Despite the hazy weather, the sun found its way through the clouds to create this fantastic northern Australian scenery.

Kampala is the capital and largest city in Uganda with over 2 million inhabitants. That's a lot of people and plenty of the city feels crowded like any major city in the world. However, this city also happens to be built along the northern edge of Lake Victoria so can find quiet places like these right along the lake that provide a peaceful getaway from the big city. This photo may look like I was 100 miles away from civilization but in reality a 5-10 minute car ride would take you right back into city life.
I am not a fun of living in big cities but that lake would definitely compensate for that.
This was taken in the Sahara Desert in Tunisia south of Douz. I guess this is a pretty typical Sahara picture, just sand for as far as the eye can see.
What an exciting ride this must have been.
We found a few lions in Chobe National Park, Botswana. We parked our car a few meters away from them. Because it was very warm, the lions needed some shade. The only shade was next to our car, so they came very close and were not scared at all.
What a cuties.
This photo is from south part of Namib Desert in Namibia.
We saw some oryxes and other antelopes on our way to Sossusvlei and we also catch Ostriches running around with very high speed. On the photo you can also see how big a dune is as a human on the top of it reflects in only a very small point on the photo.

When visiting Mahe back in February I did a few hikes along the coast. During one hike I came upon this scene here. It looked so beautiful that I had to return the next morning to snap a photo with the sun lighting up the greenery

This extravagant palace in Marrakech was built in the 19th century to resemble the power of the sultan. Even today, only small parts of it are publicly accessible, but these are already proof enough of its brilliance.

The citadel of Saladin is a fortress dominating Cairo and was built in the XII century. From the citadel, one can see the mosque of Sultan Hassan, one of the most beautiful buildings of the 14th century Mamluk era.

I want to answer the question asked by my friend Tomas about How do camels survive in such an environment?
According to a popular belief, the hump of camels would be filled with water. But that is wrong. She is actually full of fat. In a hump, a camel can store up to 36 kg of fat. The camel is able to metabolize this fat to produce water, food and energy.
This process can be summarized as follows: The hydrogen of the camel is mixed with oxygen, which produces water. The camel gets half a liter of water per kg of fat. He loses weight during this process. The bump narrows and may even end up slipping on one side. As soon as the camel feeds again, its hump returns to its original shape.
