Nomadic Nuggets! Picturesque Aqueduct. (Original Photos)

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Oye. I told myself I'd get to bed early tonight since I slept so shitty last night, but here I am at 2:45am. Anyway, this little travel nugget comes from the Portuguese archipelago known as The Azores. The weather was perfect, the sky was blue, and we were hiking along a trail around the rim of a volcano, when we came across this roman looking structure.

It's hard to find information about this thing, aside from the fact that it was an aqueduct and it's not in use anymore. It's all grown in and over with moss and grass and such.

From what I could gather, it was built around the 1880's. It's hard to say for sure since a lot of the information was in Portuguese. Really cool setting though, right?

There's a top view of it. You can see the channel that the water once flowed through. Even a part that would indicate it had a cover at one point.

Wonderful landscape photos! And how great to find that old aqueduct. Looks like nature has a good start on reclaiming it.

Wow Portugal looks amazing. So much green and blue! Added to my list :) Someone told me the food is amazing as well!

I’d recommend the Azores pretty highly. Some incredible scenery, it’s not very expensive, and we had a meal cooked by a volcano!

Damn, that sounds wonderful and exciting! Thank you :)

Absolutely beautiful how it became one with its surroundings. Great pictures!

That’s a great way to describe it! It has nearly become nature once again.

Some work building that.

Seriously! And with much more primitive tools compared to today.

Old structure but still look strong
