Backpacking system & Equipments under 2 Minutes

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

This video was shot and edited while temporarily staying at my friend’s house in McKinney Texas

Although the list of things I had in my backpack was too much when I started out, I'm just sharing what I was packing back then.

I hope this can be a reference for someone who wants to see what I brought with me when I was on a long-haul backpack travel with a tight budget while also filming the journey.

As inexperienced as I was, this is quite a bad way to pack your system. There are always better products that are becoming more and more efficient and lighter to make travelling easier.

You can check out @dhimmel's
👉 packing list👈 to get a much better idea of how you can pack your system.

The camera equipment and outer compartment from my backpack will hopefully be explained in another video... I have only shown through my main compartment and here are the lists of things.

-Headlamp
-Tarp
-Knee straps
-Multi-tool
-Waterproof sack
-Water filter
-First Aid kit (probably most often used throughout my travel)
-Heat Reflective blankets (got rid of this one after I knew I was no longer in cold area or country)
-UV sunglasses
-Knife sharpener (got rid of it later on)
-Mess kit
-Cutlery
-Survival handbook (was using this only one time when I was in the Guatemalan jungle alone for a month where there is no internet access) <-- actually not necessary. It's just heavy.
-Pencil case
-Waist pouch (could have been better using a lot lighter one for storing my camera batteries and accessories for easy access)
-Mirror
– 15cm long bushcraft knife and 30cm long jungle knife \somehow got lost along the way

The rest includes other compartments that attach on the exterior of my backpack with quick releases.

  • -20 degree Celsius sleeping bag
  • Wearable utilities and gears such as gloves and hat etc.
  • Electronics and camera gears – weighs the most
  • Clothes

I should've listed how much each item weighed..
The total weight was 25.6kg when I weighed it after making this video at that time. (absolutely not recommended)
I was a fool.

Any experienced backpackers~
feel free to let me know how you usually pack your system for
-how long?
-what type of travel?
-equipment
-total weight limit
-etc

I love the method for showing each item (slow-motion at its vertex).

However, we gotta get you more ultralight! For example, here's my packing list for my June business/hiking trip to the Alps.

  • The knife sharpener has got to go.
  • The survival handbook has got to go. Use digital version.
  • The complexity of the pack has got to go.

Thanks for the advice! I agree strongly with you that there were many things that were really unnecessary. During my first attempt for long backpack travel, I actually started to get rid of a lot of things just as you mentioned.

Really dig your packing list. I just shared your blog and I think your information is way more helpful and well put together. :)

Thanks for sharing this @dhimmel

Let us know what you ditched (sometimes that is just as helpful info as what you retained).

Of course you can share! When I make something public, I expect it to be shared without my permission.
