Osaka

Osaka is Japan's second largest metropolitan area after Tokyo and it is the number one food capital in Japan. It is known for it's night life and street food deliciously.

Street Food

The number one food they are most known for is Takoyaki. Takoyaki is a ball-shaped Japanese snack made from batter and cooked in a special pan. It is typically filled with minced octopus (tako), tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger, and green onion. The process of making it is a show of it's own.

Here's what it looks like when it's finished:

Next on the Osaka Menu is Okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is a savory pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning "how you like", and yaki meaning "grill". So basically you choose everything you want and they put it in and top it off with sauce. Typical toppings include green onion, meat, octopus, shrimp, vegetable and cheese. This was definitly my favorite food in Osaka.

Osaka Castle

I also had a chance to visit Osaka Castle which is in the middle of the city. The castle is filled with history as construction
first started all the way back in 1583.

Osaka Zoo

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is located in the Harbor Village of Osaka's bay area, and is one of Japan's most spectacular aquariums. It introduces various forms of life inhabiting the Pacific Rim in a well organized and impressive way.

Marine life is displayed in 15 tanks, each representing a specific region. The central tank, representing the Pacifc Ocean, is nine meters deep and home to a whale shark, the aquarium's main attraction.

Sumo Wrestling

I finally got a chance to go to a Sumo event. Here's a quick video I took of a match.

very nice post! ))

Loved Osaka so much. Felt so homey and more relaxed than Tokyo. Also so many great smaller cities nearby

Yeah I felt the same way about Osaka vs Tokyo. I'm off to Kyoto next!

Ohh enjoy Kyoto! I only visited for a day, but definitely wish I could have been there longer. I spent hours walking up to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine which is definitely worth it in my opinion, but came at the cost of exploring some other parts of the city.
