Irish Rovings — The Sun and the Expanse, Traveling the Beauty Alongside the Derryveagh Mountains

Slope of earth, bowl of sky. When the world is so big the shadows of the clouds are small in your vision, and the scope of the horizon has no reference.

I loved my time driving through Ireland. Most cities and towns were so small and quaint; leaving them and spending time in the rolling country was a bit of a shock, measured against the size of the cliffs and the lone rocks and the long valleys and the never-ending inclines and descents. Criss-crossing the country over and over again, I passed so many stretches like this one... beautiful vistas with sprawling clouds, dappled with shadows that could encompass entire villages in velvety shade.

I drove a lazy loop around Errigal Mountain on my way to Castle Glenveagh. Gliding along the dips and swells of Éire was hypnotic and stunning. I find myself coming back to these pictures today, when I have such a strong desire to run away from the quick, choppy anger and pettiness of people to just feel small and languid.

I imagine being enveloped in these clouds and folds and pushing down my sunglasses and driving through Ireland today. Despite the simplicity, these prints (especially the last two) have been some of the most popular that I have been sending to people around the world. I love the power that pictures have, that nature has, that the joy of discovery and the open road can gently hum right into your bones as the wheels spin and the pavement warms in the sun. These boulders, some the size of buses, are sprinkled delicately through the foothills, and my mind just can't quite understand it all at once.

If you've also had one of those days, I hope you've got an experience like this to draw on to stretch you out and slow you down... but if not, then I'm sharing this one with you, from the heart. 🖤

These photos and words are my own work, inspired by travels all over this pretty blue marble of ours. I hope you like them. 🌶️

Blue sky, white clouds and colourful earth - what a combination it is!

Most of the places in Ireland I explored had a stunning, sculptural quality to them~ definitely artistic :)

Beautiful scenery of beautiful results. photo the natural beauty that has brought you to get a beautiful dream every night. You are a very lucky person, because you have seen what I can not see in my life.I have never seen this scene it's amazing. Thank you guys for sharing, I hope someday to visit such a beautiful place even if it is not possible for me.
Thanks
Happy valentine day for you @crimsonclad

thank you! It is my great dream to share the world with others, a tiny slice at a time 🖤

Beautiful photo's ....... I once walked the mcgillycuddy reeks and some other munro's in Ireland. It was stunning, and have very find memories of my time in Ireland touring, but sadly very very few photographs as it was pre-digital! Walking was different back then!

I never forget how fortunate I am to be able to carry my gear with me when I travel, but not having it simply means we're likely to have a more present experience in the moment. I often find I relive, and re-examine how I actually perceived the places I've been as I look at the photos again when it comes time to share.

Beautifully said. The felt presence of direct experience!

Very beautiful pics, reminds me of my desert a bit.

oh, I have such a soft spot for the desert... 🖤

Nice hills/mountains... What is a Roving in this context?

well, the Irish Rovers are a fairly well known band that was formed in the sixties and popularized traditional elements of Irish music across Canada and North America, and I grew up singing some of their songs... I often think very fondly of them. And now, here I am all grown, roving around in their homeland:

travel constantly without a fixed destination; wander.
synonyms: wander, roam, ramble, drift, meander;

Cool, so rover is a kind of wanderer. Im just thinking about the song "Fire" by Jimi Hendrix

"move over rover and let Jimi take over"

I am sorry for doing this but I can't help but think about how awesome that range would be for paragliding. LOL That looks like such an epic spot. When did you go there?

I was going to say just last year, but it's 2018 now isn't it? So, late in 2016. I did actually see someone paragliding when I was at the Giant's Causeway, which was pretty incredible~ I feel like you could just go forever...

The cool thing is, as long as the winds are right, you can fly forever. There are a handful of guys that are breaking records over here that have 6hour flights that are over 80 miles long. I am hoping to get one of these epic flights this spring here in San Diego.

I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland, looks amazing. I just joined discord and I’m totally lost and confused, do you have any tips

Absolutely! the big thing is finding a few people you connect with, either in content or in culture or just in friendship. Those first few solid connections are the ones that you will lean on and that will lean on you as you grow. Using your time on discord to find the people who will best love the content that only you can make is going to go a lonnnng way.

Otherwise, comments like this are so powerful, so great job! Spending a little more time engaging genuinely with a poster and a post is infinitely more rewarding (personally and usually economically) than spray and pray shit commenting. It tends to find you more followers and can earn you more rewards than posting into the void when you first set out :)

Great, thank you so much for the reply 😊 it’s been a huge learning curve for me, but people like you have been so encouraging so I know i’ll Eventually start to ‘ get it’

I would love to go hiking in that place for hours!!! nice views, great pictures... congrats, keep it coming and keep in touch

one of my biggest regrets during my time there is that I didn't allot a day to hike up Errigal Mountain!
Check out these views... looks like I'll have to go back.

Thanks for stopping in and commenting!

Those mountains looks inviting indeed! Ireland is truly a magical place. Can't wait to be there one day!

I hope you do get there! Between the rolling hills and ruins in every backyard, it's a photographer's dream, truly~

Much like Iceland, this place looks totally otherworldly

I totally, totally agree! I found places like this in Ireland, Iceland, and New Zealand all respectively. I can only imagine the intrigue comes from being a jewel-like, windswept island...
