What about tips in Egypt?
Well, maybe you are pro or against tips in general, but when going to Egypt take into account that tourism is a great resource of income for the Country and for the people in general On top of that, all the Egyptians are used to giving and receiving tips, so do what you want, but my advice is to tell you to give tips paying in local currency, which in the end represents little money and will make your vacation a much more agreable experience.
If you ever decide to give a tip, the next question is how much should you give, and the answer, as always, depends upon the circumstances. Let's put an example, imagine you are visiting a site, and you have to go through the bathroom, will all probability you are going to find there a person, generally a woman, that makes his income keeping the premises in a reasonable degree of cleaning, and let's imagine you need, for example, toilet paper, in case that person gives you some, take for granted that he or she will expect to receive something from you, a normal tip for this case would be one or two Egyptian Lira, that represent about 0,1 euros or some zero point 1 USD.
If, for example, you go into a restaurant, and you think the people working there deserve a tip, give in accordance to the circumstances.
Another aspect to this question is when at the end of your vacation you want to give something to your travel guides or drivers. A good tip in this case will be about 1.000 Egyptian Lira to the guide, and between 250 to 300 lira to the driver.
In any case, do what you want, but be aware that each time somebody there does something for you, they will wait for the tip.
