Visiting Lake Anna, VA - The Peaceful Country Life
"The clearest way into the Universe, is through a forest wilderness."
~John Muir
Lake Anna is one of the largest lakes in Virginia. It covers over 13,000 acres. It is a truly beautiful place, despite the fact that there is a nuclear power generating plant in town. In 1968, Virginia Power Co. (now Dominion) purchased it. There is a cold side to the lake and a warm side. During the summer months when you jump in the lake it is just like bath water temperature! I miss swimming there everyday! That's not always good when the water is so warm though as you have to be careful with the bacterial levels. Nature is abundant here. There are so many fish, turtles, deer, lizards, bear, ravens, bobcats and more! I used to feed the Ravens when I lived there. i would drive my van to the lake and they literally followed me. I'd give them about a loaf of bread every morning as I always caught the early morning sunrise at the lake. Photography of Nature is what I love the best!
I adore the deer there. They are always feeding on the trees, berries and grass. They sometimes let you get pretty close.
Henrietta the goose and her family! She does chase and bite! I her defense, I've seen people throw things at her at a nearby restaurant. That was pretty mean. I remember trying to hurry up and get over to that area to yell at the jerk but he was gone. Nature is beautiful, go spend some time with it today, I guarantee you if you get some sun and talk a stroll even just for 20 minutes you will feel better!
"The poetry of earth is never dead."
~John Keats
Fishing is a huge sport in Lake Anna, as well as boating, tubing, swimming and jet skiers! Lake Anna is only about 30 minuted from Fredericksburg, VA where you would have a fairly nice hotel to stay at compared the the two tiny motels there in town. If you're not into a nicer hotel and are waking up at 4 am to fish then go ahead as it's right there at the lake without having to drive the 30 minutes.
While driving on a small two lane country road, don't be surprised when you get behind these......
These trucks with logs make me so nervous and they are flying down that little curvy small two lane road. The police are pretty good though and usually catch speeders in the area. It's really dangerous driving so fast as on coming traffic can be hit so easily
Bonfires are popular to have at the lake as well as boats, lol!
"I love places that make you realize how tiny you and your problems are." ~unknown
"The mountains are calling and I must go."
~John Muir
Sunrises are gorgeous at Lake Anna! In the neighborhood Windwood Coves (where I used to live) you can go to a local beach area and catch these every morning! It's about the best 30 minutes of the day you will spend with no noise except the trickle of water from the lake or a Raven calling out to me for their bread, lol! An occasional fish will jump out of the water and those type of nature sounds will automatically relax you. It is sort of like meditating out here.
"I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it."
