Worldly Wanders #4 - Chapman's Peak, South AfricasteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel7 years ago

I’m pretty sad that this trip is going to end soon - the Cape Town area has been absolutely breathtaking!!

At least I got to fill the weekend with some magnificent drives around the Cape Town area. Basically, I took it real chilled, relaxed and soaked in the sun where I could…

I decided I had to take a drive up Chapman’s Peak Drive as this is definitely one of my favorite spots in the area. Unfortunately there were some rocks that fell on the road a few weeks back and thus only part of the road is open to the public. Nonetheless, I still took the chance and am really glad I did.

This is the stunning view from an area close to the top of the drive looking towards the Noordhoek end. Unfortunately, due to the roadworks, I wasn’t able to go much further than this.

Heading back down the pass with Hout Bay in the distance.

On the drive down, you’ll come across an old war memorial on your left. Definitely worth a quick stop too. Must have been quite a thrill shooting these canons at oncoming enemies way back when.

Finally, just before you reach the bottom of the drive, there are some absolutely amazing views of Hout Bay.

If you looked carefully in the last photo, you would have noticed a bronze leopard in the lower left corner. This statue was completed in 1963 and is a memorial to the many wild animals that used to roam the area. Unfortunately, the last leopard was spotted in the Hout Bay area in 1937.

Stay tuned for the last few posts before I have to leave this beautiful part of the country.

Awesome! Thanks a mil :)

Welcome bro :)

Very beautiful. Is South Africa safe for travelers?

Thanks a mil :)
Honestly, most "touristy" areas are quite safe. There are obviously some unsafe areas that you'd stay away from - same as if you had to go to New York for instance...

Thanks for the information. Yes, there are some areas in NYC I will never go

I think everywhere in the world there are "no go" zones... ;)

That was a wonderful adventure,no doubt you enjoyed yourself..

Having a super time!! Thanks...

Wow, amazing. I didn't realize South Africa was so beautiful.

SA is actually quite a big tourist attraction - especially the Cape and "safaris" in the bush :)
