All the vampires are gone: come visit anyway - Transylvania

in #travel7 years ago

I bet you have a million places on your “To visit” list, just like me. This is why you should include Transylvania on your list, for a few days trip guaranteed to leave an impression.

Romania is famous for this special region called Transylvania and even if not one of us as individuals can take the credit for that, it means it had, over the years, some impact on the people visiting it.

The myth and the landscape are, for sure, some of the main selling points.

Vampires are gone, buried under tons of clichés in overused themes in so many movies and promo ideas. But we still have:

*and their appetite for fresh food and cool ways to make our food enjoyable.

When and why come visit:

  • Seasonal recommendations

We have a temperate climate, and that some years ago meant 4 seasons, but that’s over now, climate going crazy as it is. So most areas have cold autumns with some days of snow and then summers with some chillier days. Basically, with us it’s one of these. Rarely does the temperature drop under -15 celsius.

From Otober to April you can find snow on the mountains, so for all you passionate winter sports steemians, book a ticket to Brasov.

From May to October the sea, if you prefer it, will take you away from Transylvania. The sand is waiting and on it some more attractions.

  • All year round recommendations

We are consistently on the list of countries for the most beautiful women in the world. Every city, every festival, club and university is full of bright gorgeous women. So there’s that…:) But seriously, the clubs are insane in Romania.

And really, most people are great. The older ones – over 60- won’t know how to say Welcome, but you’ll see how you are indeed welcome by the amount of attention, food and smiles they’ll give you.
And the younger generations all know at least 1 other language, so you’ll find a guide on every street and the enthusiasm to give help.

Untold won the Best Major Festival title at the 2015 European Festival Awards. This year it starts on August 2nd and get ready for 4 days of everything cool, from people to activities and music.

Chic little towns are scattered all over Transylvania. Picture perfect, they’ll give you enough photo material for a year to post. Some of them, like Cluj, Sibiu, Brasov are county capitals and easy to hear about, but the little jewels like Sighisoara, Colibita, Viseu are worth some research to discover. For their surroundings – like caves, waterfalls, passes, for all the villages gathered around them and the old architecture.

Have you heard of “mici” or “sarmale”? These are only 2 of the traditional – we like to say – foods. Meet based, because we are major meet eaters, not shy on condiments and grease. So look forward to our own interpretation of the burgers, ribs and other grilled specialities you thought can’t possibly be tastier. And the desserts, oh god, the desserts…

Street food is not that common here, but there are enough bistros and restaurants and other perfect places to make your feet take a break and put your digestive system to work.

That’s it for now, I made my case for my county. If you need any advice, update or other info, feel free to contact me and see you in the summer, in Cluj-Napoca, if Untold sounds good to you. ;)

Thank you for reading.

Yours truly,

@Catalina10
