Adventures from South of the Border #5 The Mayan Riviera
Went out to the Mayan Riviera this week to visit some friends who live in the town of Playa del Carmen. They live in a small, eco- friendly development that is about five miles inland from the tourist district that is so famous. It is really in the middle of the jungle, and was an experience spending time there. Here are some photos that we took.
One of the homes on the site.
This house was two stories high, with a complete kitchen and bathroom and a loft for sleeping. It is completely open with only screens for windows and protection from bugs. It was quite effective, and surprisingly comfortable. About fifty yards through the jungle was a neighbor and we were treated to a tour of his home, which was built high in the trees.
Here is a shot of the base and the stairway up to the residence.
Once at the top, there were hammocks to relax on and a spectacular view of the tree tops from the "bird nest."
A warm breeze blows over the tops of the trees and it is so relaxing up there. But when it was time to cool off, there is a freshwater grotto a few steps away. This open air cenote is the perfect place to rejuvenate your mind and soul.
Well! Adios for today! More to come!
